Luxega Wins Major Contract

Luxega wins major contract – 2,461 Philips Iridium Gen1 Street Lights to be upgraded with AI-Manufactured LED Inserts

Frederikshavn, Denmark – November 2025 – Luxega has secured its largest order to date, marking a major milestone in the company’s mission to deliver sustainable street lighting.
The Danish lighting manufacturer will supply 2,461 high-performance LED inserts for existing Philips Iridium Gen1 luminaires across Frederikshavn Municipality — a large-scale upgrade combining energy efficiency, sustainability, and advanced lighting technology.

A landmark project in Denmark’s Northernmost Region

Frederikshavn Municipality covers a large area of northern Denmark — stretching all the way to Skagen, one of the country’s most famous holiday destinations and home to the world-renowned Skagen Painters. Every year, millions of visitors are drawn to the region’s stunning landscapes, cultural heritage, and art history.

Beyond Skagen, the area is known for its beautiful coastline, Bangsbo Fort, Palm Beach, Frederikshavn Harbour, and the Skagen Museum — all symbols of a community that combines tradition and innovation with a strong focus on sustainability. It’s here that Luxega’s concept fits perfectly — preserving what already exists while modernizing for the future.

Background of the project

Luxega initiated collaboration with the local utility partner responsible for operation and maintenance of street lighting across the municipality. Over the years, the region has developed a large installation base of Philips Iridium Gen1 luminaires — a design recognized for its durability, aesthetics, and long lifespan.

However, the original 50W discharge lamps no longer provided adequate light output, and total power consumption — including ballast losses — was measured at 58–61W per unit. With Luxega’s AI-engineered LED inserts, consumption will be reduced by approximately 51%, equating to 145,000 kg of CO₂ savings annually.

The estimated return on investment (ROI) is 3.7 years excluding installation. Including installation — which takes just 3 minutes and 35 seconds per luminaire — ROI remains under four years, even when factoring in internal labor and logistics.

The solution is delivered with a 5-year full warranty and 10-year spare-part warranty, with an expected lifetime of 100,000 hours (L80, B10) — equivalent to 10–15 years of operation.

The Product: LXR-0011 — A complete and certified solution

The project utilizes Luxega’s LXR-0011, developed using the company’s proprietary AI cloning model that ensures 100% compatibility with Philips Iridium Gen1 housings. Each insert includes a Philips Dynadimmer driver with night dimming, 20kV surge protection, and precision lenses that comply with all European and Danish road lighting standards.

To fine-tune efficiency and optimize light distribution, the project features different lumen packages (20W, 33W, 39W, and 59W), tailored for pole heights ranging from 5 to 8.5 meters. This customization ensures the ideal balance between light quality, road safety, and energy savings.

Certified and Fully Compliant with EU Regulations

When an LED insert is installed in an existing luminaire, it is classified as a substantial modification. As such, Luxega assumes full manufacturer responsibility for the rebuilt luminaire and issues the EC Declaration of Conformity (DoC) and CE marking for the complete product.

The project complies with all key European standards, including:

  • EN IEC 60598-1: General requirements and tests for luminaires

  • EN 60598-2-3: Specific requirements for road lighting

  • EN 62493: Assessment of electromagnetic fields

  • EN 61347 / EN 62384: Safety and performance of LED drivers

  • EN 55015 / EN 61000: Electromagnetic compatibility

  • EN 62262: Mechanical impact resistance (IK rating)

  • EN 60529: Ingress protection (IP rating)

In addition, Luxega provides:

  • Independent light measurements (EN 13032-4 / LM-79)

  • TM21 lifetime calculations

  • Wind-load assessments for poles and luminaires

  • Optional Dark Sky certification

All installations are calculated and verified in DIALux, ensuring full compliance with both European and Danish road lighting regulations regarding brightness, uniformity, and glare — promoting safety while protecting the environment.

Sustainability and Environmental Impact

By reusing existing luminaire housings, Luxega significantly reduces CO₂ emissions. A new luminaire typically contains 6.5 kg of aluminum, whereas Luxega’s LED insert weighs only 2.6 kg — resulting in a material-based CO₂ saving of 3.9 kg per unit. For the entire project of 2,461 luminaires, that equates to an additional 9.6 tons of CO₂ saved, even before factoring in energy efficiency gains.

Altogether, this project stands as a strong example of how municipalities can achieve major environmental benefits through smart and sustainable upgrades.

Statement from CEO Rune Søgaard Larsen

“I’m truly proud of this agreement,” says Rune Søgaard Larsen, CEO and founder of Luxega.
“The Frederikshavn project is our largest to date — and our first major lighting contract. It proves that our technology is ready for large-scale rollouts.”

“For years, we’ve heard the same message: ‘Win a large project, and we’ll consider you.’ Now we’ve reached that point. Introducing innovation into a traditional market like street lighting hasn’t been easy, but we’ve shown that technology and documentation can go hand in hand.”

“A big thank you to our project partner for leading the way. They’ve shown that sustainability and economics can align perfectly. A return on investment below four years — including installation — is incredible.”

“We must stop discarding old luminaires that are still functional. It’s a waste of resources. Our solution proves that it’s possible to extend lifetime, save energy, and significantly reduce CO₂ at the same time.”

“I’m proud of my team and of our AI model, which once again has shown that installation can be done in under 15 minutes — in this case, just 3 minutes and 35 seconds. This is the future of sustainable street lighting.”
